As the war in Iraq drags on into a fourth brutal year, the same politicians who led the U.S. to war in 2003 are preparing for a new war --this time against the people of Iran.
Once again using the pretext of "weapons of mass destruction," the U.S. is moving the forces into place in preparation for a possible attack.

New Zealanders and their politicians are living in a bubble of ignorance and one wonders if that is deliberate. Courage is in short supply in Washington, D.C. The realities of the Iraq War cry out for the overthrow of a government that is criminally responsible for death, mutilation, torture, humiliation, chaos.

Parry illuminates many previously little known facts - such as that various leading Democrats such as Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator John Edwards and others have expressed strong support for a US attack on Iran, and no opinions or questions as to the advisability or potential disastrous consequences of such action or the false accusations of the Bush regime. Many democrats are helping build a false case against Iran.

Much as he did before the Iraq invasion, George W. Bush is limiting the debate about war with Iran, offering assurances that he considers war "a last resort" even as he moves his military forces into place.

Paul Craig Roberts is one of the best political commentators today and most qualified to give us the truth of what is going on in Washington and what is likely to happen.
What impressed me was the large amount of advice Bush was given by highly qualified Americans that invading Iraq was a mistake. An even greater amount of advice said making war on Iran would be a bigger mistake, very much against US interests, and threatening to the world. However, no amount of wise advice has any effect on Bush, who is following an insane, Israeli-inspired, neoconservative agenda.

Bush's State of the Union Address did not describe the deplorable state of the union. The speech's importance consists of Bush's plea to Congress to please let him fool them one more time in order that he can attack Iran and start a bigger war that Congress will have to support in order to support Israel.   That is all the president had to say. . . .

Will a similar incident like the Gulf of Tonkin attack during the Vietnam War in 1964 be used by Bush as a pretext for war with Iran?

Developments converge to signify inevitable conflict despite ongoing chaos in Iraq
Republican Congressman and 2008 Presidential candidate Ron Paul fears a staged Gulf of Tonkin style incident may be used to provoke air strikes on Iran as numerous factors collide to heighten expectations that America may soon be embroiled in its third war in six years.
Writing in his syndicated weekly column, the representative of Texas' 14th district warns of “a contrived Gulf of Tonkin-type incident (that) may occur to gain popular support for an attack on Iran.”

Will Protest Help?

It's good to see this protest and typical of the New York Times to downgrade it by underestimating the numbers.
Will it move Bush.? Very unlikely.
. . . Nevertheless this popular protest is good because it may encourage others and embolden the very weak and vacillating Congress.
Bush is defiant and says he'll continue to make war based on lies, while he is making up new lies to justify his next war. The formula seems to work well for the Bush Administration who are determined to carry on their plan even if it means world war III.
Until Congress faces up to Bush's many lies, instead of going along with them, and acts to impeach Bush, his neocon regime will carry on their war-making agenda.

Washington - Tens of thousands of protesters converged on the National Mall on Saturday to oppose President Bush's plan for a troop increase in Iraq in what organizers hoped would be one of the largest shows of antiwar sentiment in the nation's capital since the war began.
The event drew demonstrators from across the country, and many said that in addition to taking their discontent to the streets they planned to press members of Congress to oppose the war.

Here is another warning about Bush's intention to make an attack on Iran, using the same kind of lies and accusations he used before he made war on Iraq. Congressman Dennis Kucinich is the latest in a long line of journalists, politicians, academics and geo-political analysts who have made such warnings.
A Washington Post article quoted a senior US intelligence officer"...that the United States is escalating toward an unnecessary conflict to shift attention away from Iraq and to blame Iran for the United States increasing inability to staunch the violence there."

The White House Is Up To Its Old Tricks; Is Preparing the United States for an Attack on Iran
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) accused the White House of mounting a media blitz to prepare the U.S. public for an eventual attack on Iran. Today The Washington Post reported the Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran's influence across the Middle East.

The Washington Post article shows that Bush has started his war on Iran by kidnapping, imprisoning and threatening to kill Iranians who are openly and legally in Iraq. He is doing everything he can to provoke some kind of reactions by Iran, so that he can blame "Iranian terrorism" and opposition to his war as an excuse for the quagmire he has created. Bush and US media are stepping up their campaign to demonise Iran to Americans in order to gain their support for any future big incidents blamed on Iran, as a justification for his planned attack. 

Policy on operatives stirs concern among some U.S. officials
The Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran 's influence across the Middle East and compel it to give up its nuclear program, according to government and counterterrorism officials with direct knowledge of the effort.

Russian Ex-Chief of Defence, General Ivashov's analysis is very similar to many articles on our website and in my comments. I think it is one of the most informed professional analysis so far of US intentions to nuclear bomb Iran. He even refers to a pretext or what many have referred to as a "False Flag" incident to get the Senate and Congress to give their approval for a nuclear attack on Iran. The article should convince people that now is the time to take action if they wish to prevent a US nuclear attack on Iran and all the disastrous consequences that can follow. I can't see any effective action or purpose in protest after such an attack when casualties are already in the millions with perhaps many more to come.

In the overall flow of information coming from the Middle East, there are increasingly frequent reports indicating that within several months from now the US will deliver nuclear strikes on Iran. For example, citing well-informed but undisclosed sources, the Kuwaiti Arab Times wrote that the US plans to launch a missile and bomb attack on the territory of Iran before the end of April, 2007. The campaign will start from the sea and will be supported by the Patriot missile defense systems in order to let the US forces avoid a ground operation and to reduce the efficiency of the return strike by “any Persian Gulf country”. This Los Angeles Times article shows how US is setting the stage for attacking Iran by making accusations against Iran for aiding the Iraqi opposition.
The US is acting as if it had a divine right to illegally bomb and invade Iraq, justifying it with lies and false accusations. Then the US  blames Iraq's neighbours Iran and Syria, for interfering with their illegal conquest and slaughter of over 650,000 Iraqis and supplying arms to the Iraqi opposition. This is in spite of good relations between Iran and the US-appointed Iraqi government. It is outrageous and delusional for the US, who has created a large war quagmire in Iraq, to portray itself as having the right to dictate Iraq's affairs, it's relations with other states and actually threaten these states for opposing its conquest and killing. The Bush regime has been creating many false reasons for attacking Iran, and preparing the military for an attack for some months. As they get closer the anti-Iran propaganda increases.

US warnings of advanced weaponry crossing the border are overstated, critics say.

At last a courageous US politician, Congressman Ron Paul, has warned fellow Americans that the Bush Administration may stage a false flag operation to incriminate Iran.
Bush can then blame Iran and justify his decision to attack Iran. Many of the comments that follow this short news item suggest that the US will stage some kind of nuclear attack on its own citizens to justify Bush's planned nuclear attack on Iran. Because of the enormous casualties and very long term disastrous consequences, it seems logical for the Bush regime to stage a very big false flag attack on the US - an attack so big, that few would believe that Bush would have or could have committed such a mass killing of Americans. If that's the way it happens, Bush should get all the support he wants, for whatever wars he wants against anyone he names. As Hitler wrote: "The bigger the lie the more people will believe it"

This is incredible, even by my standards. I watched this clip a few times, and I still don't believe it.

The twilight period of American democracy is now, when various steps, such as impeachment proceedings could still be successful.

By any serious standard of journalism, impeachment should be in the news right now. This illustrates the worst problem with our media. It's not how they cover stories. It's how they do not cover stories.
A Newsweek poll a while back said that 51 percent of Americans want Bush impeached and 44 percent do not. That's about double the support there was for impeaching Clinton when it was in the news every single day.

Israel has been given the job of attacking Iran with nuclear weapons because the mid-term elections ruled out the US doing what they had been planning to do for the last 2 years, according to this article by Michael Carmichael. Israel is the sacred cow of US politics that few dare criticize. Israel can invoke fears of another holocaust in order to gain public sympathy and dampen down criticism if they use nuclear weapons.

In the early 1990s, one of America's premiere journalists, Seymour Hersh, published a best-selling book, The Samson Option, detailing Mr Vanunu's testimony and a great deal of new information about Israel's vaunted nuclear defense capability.
While the vast majority of the peoples of the earth have known about Israel's nuclear arsenal since 1986, many Americans still do not accept the existence of WMDs under the direct control of the Israeli defense establishment. Some suggest that an Armageddon, as predicted in the Old Testament, could be the real goal of a born-again, fundamentalist Christian President who believes he follows the advice of God, and that God sanctions his wars.

George W. Bush has purged senior military and intelligence officials who were obstacles to a wider war in the Middle East, broadening his options for both escalating the conflict inside Iraq and expanding the fighting to Iran and Syria with Israel 's help.

Paul Craig Roberts has written extensively on the Bush Administration especially it's present wars and future war plans.

The repudiation of Bush and the Republicans in the November congressional election, the Iraq Study Group's unanimous conclusion that the US needs to remove its troops from the sectarian strife Bush set in motion by invading Iraq, Donald Rumsfeld's removal as defense secretary and his replacement by Iraqi Study Group member Robert Gates, the thumbs down given by America's top military commanders to the neoconservatives' plan to send more US troops to Iraq, and new polls of the US military that reveal that only a minority supports Bush's Iraq policy, thus giving new meaning to “support the troops,” are all indications that Americans have shed the stupor that has given carte blanche to George W. Bush.

The New York Times article below gives a good account of how alleged US strategy in Iraq during 2006 has zigzagged and failed.
The NYT and US Govt want to give the impression that it is a series of blunders and mistakes in Iraq that has resulted in the situation going from bad to worse, to full-blown civil war.
What they do not discuss is (1) They had no right or real reason to invade and occupy in the first place (2) That the whole effort is based on a collection of lies by the Bush regime. (3) With the lies they used to justify their attacks now thoroughly exposed, the Bush regime carries on anyway, intensifying their war, killing 655,000 Iraqis and stoking the civil war.

President Bush began 2006 assuring the country that he had a “strategy for victory in Iraq.” He ended the year closeted with his war cabinet on his ranch trying to devise a new strategy, because the existing one had collapsed.
The original plan, championed by Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the top commander in Baghdad, and backed by Donald H. Rumsfeld, then the defense secretary, called for turning over responsibility for security to the Iraqis, shrinking the number of American bases and beginning the gradual withdrawal of American troops. But the plan collided with Iraq's ferocious unraveling, which took most of Mr. Bush's war council by surprise.

.... Parry's article below reports that the Bush regime is planning to go ahead with its expansion of the Iraq  war, and by nuclear bombing Iran. This parallels many other articles on this site which say the same thing. All predict very, very serious consequences in many areas.
Parry also predicts there will be "some provocation that can be blamed on Syria and Iran , thus justifying the expanded war."
My own prediction is that the "provocation" referred to by Parry, will be a vitally important False Flag operation. It would be very carefully planned by the Bush Administration to stage some kind of an attack, perhaps a terrorist attack on the US, like 9/11, for which the Bush Regime has planned to blame Iran. ...

Intelligence sources say President Bush -- along with Israel's Ehud Olmert and the UK's Tony Blair -- are weighing the possibility of Israeli-led attacks on Syria and Iran in early 2007, with the United States providing logistical back-up.

In her historical mystery, “The Daughter of Time,” Josephine Tey (a pen name of Elizabeth MacKintosh), has Scotland Yard Inspector Alan Grant, while confined to his hospital bed, solve the 15th century murder of the two York princes in the Tower of London.  The princes were murdered by Henry VII, and the crime was blamed on Richard III in order to justify the upstart Tudor's violent seizure of the English throne.
They makes the point that if a 20th century mystery writer can detect the truth about a 15th century murder, historians have no excuse to persist in writing in school textbooks that Richard murdered his nephews. British historians remained loyal to the Tudor propaganda long after the Tudors were no longer around to be feared or served.

Dr Leupp provides an excellent analysis of the geopolitical situation and the likelihood that the US will attack Iran in 2007.
However like many other US commentators he doesn't mention Bush's probable use of nuclear weapons, or how Bush may use a 'False Flag' type of attack on the US then blame it on Iran , to justify a war on Iran . An attack would frighten, confuse and probably enflame the US public with increased hatred of Iran , thus gaining their support for the planned war in much the same way as their support was gained for the phoney war on Iraq.

The reaction to the Iraq Study Group (ISG) report suggests that a showdown is shaping up within the U.S. power elite between two different sets of cowboys.
On the one hand, there are the George W. Bush cowboys who want to expand their conquests from Afghanistan and Iraq into Syria and Iran. It's a natural extension of the Manifest Destiny doctrine that underpinned the conquest of the"Wild West," the annexation of almost half of Mexico's territory in the 1840s, the "opening of Japan" resulting from gunboat diplomacy in 1854, the Marines' overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893, and the establishment of a colonial empire from the Pacific to the Caribbean following the Spanish-American War.

While brilliant and very worthwhile, Marjorie Cohn also neglects to mention the techniques and circumstances the Bush regime may use to start a war with Iran with US public support.  
The result of this kind of failure by many US journalists is a people that will be fooled by a US 'False Flag' against Iran. They will then support a war on Iran because of what they have been fooled into thinking that Iran has done. It is a story of how rational intelligent thinking people can discount and/or dismiss the idea of official chicanery, even though various US Governments and their agencies have a long history of committing various nefarious schemes against other countries and governments.

In 1971, singer Marvin Gaye raised hackles when he tried to make sense of the madness of the Vietnam War by asking, "What's Going On?" ....
The song, told from the perspective of a returning Vietnam veteran, was inspired by Gaye's brother who had recently returned from that disastrous war.

A number of articles are posted on our website predicting a US war with Iran . And a Google search on this subject showed 104 million articles. Searching "US Nuclear War With Iran" showed 24.7 million articles. Therefore, a lot of very thoughtful people are deeply concerned, and writing about, this subject. And there are many indications that this nightmare will begin soon, just as there were before the illegal US bombing, invasion and occupation of Iraq began in 2003.
The present Bush regime has committed multiple war crimes and violations of the US Constitution. Now, with their backs against the wall, with the "Impeach Bush" movement growing, and with Bush's popularity dropping below 30%, the Bush regime may decide their only way out is to resort to even greater crimes---such as escalating the Iraq War and making a preemptive strike with mini-nukes on Iran.

Back on October 9, I wrote in The Nation that it looked like the Bush-Cheney gang, worried about the November election, was gearing up for an unprovoked attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, with a carrier strike group led by the USS Eisenhower being ordered to depart a month early from Norfolk, VA to join the already-on-station USS Enterprise. That article was based on reports from angry sailors based on the Eisenhower who had leaked word of their mission.
There was, thankfully, no attack on Iran before Election Day, but it is starting to look like I may have been right about the plan after all, but wrong about the timing.

U.S. Command Declares Global Strike Capability has been in a state of readiness since 2004. This very limited release raises many questions.
Pre-emptive nuclear war suggests that the USA would not wait to be attacked before launching its pre-emptive attack in anticipation.
In other words they (meaning the Bush Administration or its successor) reserve the right to be intelligence interpreter, judge, jury and executioner. This is because any nuclear strike could kill a nation - or a number of nations. As they have already demonstrated a terrible failure of intelligence over the Iraq war, and many indications they have doctored and biased the intelligence to get the results they wanted to justify war, how can anyone judge the validity of US intelligence excuses they may give to justify a nuclear strike.?

The U.S. Strategic Command announced yesterday it had achieved an operational capability for rapidly striking targets around the globe using nuclear or conventional weapons, after last month testing its capacity for nuclear war against a fictional country believed to represent North Korea.

I repeat this quote from Adolph Hitler because it seems so relevant to the tactics today of the Bush Administration. The reactions of people are much the same. It's as if nothing was learned since the Hitlerian techniques were successfully used on the German people. Why?  They may be fooled again, particularly if Bush and co unleash a 'False Flag' op, followed up with a well-planned campaign of lies, blame, pro-war propaganda and war on the accused, for the phoney alleged "False Flag" errorist attack on the US. 

US-Iran Talks, Propaganda

...The propaganda pitch also suggests that Bush and his neocons are using the same type of lies to build a case for attacking Iran and that they are creating a situation where they will blame Iran and Syria for not stopping the violence provoked by the US war. With the US said to be planning to use nuclear weapons against Iran , they may use any number of tactics and psywar inventions, such as a 'False Flag' operation to convince the public that this was the right thing to do.

The Bush administration has come under growing pressure to reach out to Iran to try to calm escalating violence in Iraq . A key recommendation of a bipartisan US report on how to tackle Iraq said Washington should engage Iran and Syria directly.

As the following article indicates, the US invests millions of dollars and an army of psychological warfare experts to influence the public and politicians everywhere to favour US policies and believe US-invented lies. The Iraq war was a good example of a series of lie stories faithfully printed or broadcast by most mass media as true, and even supported editorially. Criticism or exposure of the lies with true stories was simply not allowed by the editors. Nowhere was this better illustrated than with some of the newspapers in New Zealand.
