The publication of sections of a key United States "national intelligence estimate" (NIE) document in Washington on 26 September 2006 has brought the issue of Iraq and the wider war to centre stage in Washington in the run-up to the mid-term Congressional elections on 7 November. For a long time I've wondered why, in the home of freedom and democracy, there is not more outraged liberal reaction to the phoney and contrived "wars on terror".
After reading Tony Judt's article, I now understand. It will not be surprising if Bush succeeds in converting America into a fascist state in all but name. That is because there does not appear to be much intelligent opposition to Bushism. Tony mentions so many prominent liberals who have quickly converted to defending and justifying Bush war madness against the newly coined but non-existent 'Islamo-fascism'.

Bush's Useful Idiots

Why have American liberals acquiesced in President Bush's catastrophic foreign policy? Why have they so little to say about Iraq, about Lebanon, or about reports of a planned attack on Iran? Why has the administration's sustained attack on civil liberties and international law aroused so little opposition or anger from those who used to care most about these things? Bush ran as a moderate, tacked right and governed ineffectually -- before 9/11. Since then he has become the most radical American president in history, and arguably the worst.

One can assume that the Bush regime is aware that his Iraqi Command says that 18,770 Iraqis have been released since June 2004. US officers told the International Red Cross that 70 to 90 percent of the Iraqi detentions were "mistakes".
Also, it is well established that torture does not produce reliable information. So in addition to moral, ethical and legal considerations, there is no practical advantage in torturing one's victims. Also Bush's torture policies makes enemies and turns the U.S. into an international pariah.
So what's the point of his torture policies.?

Bush's Cruel and Degrading Presidency

Washington is a moral swamp. When the chief executive can stand at the presidential podium and make an unabashed appeal for torture, then the American dream is dead.
Bush hates America and only God knows why? He's been buoyed-along his entire life on a raft of wealth and privilege; distancing himself from his endless failures, one after the other…flop, flop, flop. Still, Bush wants more; another pound of flesh to inflate his battered, alcohol-saturated ego. He wants to snuff out anything that even vaguely resembles honor or decency or dignity so he can permeate the world with his own fiendish image beaming from TVs across the globe.

According to Seymour Hersh, Bush has a messianic mission - making war on Iran. The pretext, as we learned from Bush's war on Iraq, is that his neocon administration creates it's own pretexts for war, by stringing together a fabric of lies, and demonizing the leader of the target nation.
Even if Iran had or was planning to make nuclear weapons, that does not give Bush & Co the right to wage pre-emptive war against it. Does the U.S. make war on Israel, because Israel has an arsenal of 200-500 nuclear weapons?. It does not, nor does it make war or threaten sanctions against any of the other nuclear weapon states -Russia, China, Britain, France, Pakistan, North Korea, India. So why would Bush risk starting a major war in the Middle East - even a nuclear war -  that could escalate and end the world?.

Hersh: U.S. mulls nuclear option for Iran

HERSH: The word I hear is "messianic." He thinks, as I wrote, that he's the only one now who will have the courage to do it. He's politically free. I don't think he's overwhelmingly concerned about the '06 elections, congressional elections. I think he really thinks he has a chance, and this is going to be his mission.

In New Zealand we certainly live in a 'Bubble of ignorance' generated by our mass media. If it wasn't for Internet, New Zealand would indeed be embedded in ignorance about world affairs - particularly what's going on in Washington. I Googled "When Nuclear strike On Iran" and got 6,150,000 entries. There is a lot of authoritative articles predicting a nuclear strike on Iran. If you doubt the Neo Conservative Bush regime would do such a thing - because they well know Iran has no nuclear weapons or nuclear weapons programme as reported by IAEA inspectors, even though they are screaming the opposite - try doing a Google yourself and read a few of these articles.  Here is one good example. Maybe it's just me, but I've been at least a little bit surprised by the relatively muted reaction to the news that the Cheney Administration and its Pentagon underlings are racing to put the finishing touches on plans for attacking Iran – plans which may include the first wartime use of nuclear weapons since Nagasaki.

9/11 SPECIAL PROSECUTOR NEEDED

We do not want to believe that our own federal government may have conspired and murdered other Americans to justify the Global War on Terror and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq . Such information destroys our concept of self and our worldview. However, the truth is the truth and it cannot be hidden any longer. Now, some CIA officers are buying legal insurance to cover the cost of their defense should they be indicted by a federal grand jury for their roles in 9/11. They are worried that the results of an internal CIA investigation into some CIA agents' roles in 9/11 may soon become public and the public outcry would immediately lead to their arrest for murder and conspiracy among other charges.

This is a well-documented article by Dick Fojut which exposes some of the details of what may be the biggest fraud in history.
It is one of a growing number that examine the proposition that the Bush Administration staged a "False Flag" operation to create a "Pearl Harbour" in the U.S. and then blamed what it called  "Islamic terrorists" for this crime. After the alleged 9/11 crime, 7 of the 19 so-called "terrorists" were found alive and well by British newspapers and the BBC in 2001. Most U.S. and allied media neither reported nor followed up on this story.

My grandfather, U.S. Army Col. Edwin Joseph McAllister, was born in Battle Creek in 1895. He does not know that his first grandchild is an international expert on depleted uranium. False Flag Operations: Declassified Military Documents Show How

US Government Planned Terrorist Attacks Against its Own Citizens
As reported by ABC News, stunning military documents codenamed "Operation Northwoods" were declassified in recent years and show how in 1962, the top US military leaders planned an operation to create terror attacks against its own cities and kill US citizens.

Here is another article by a reliable dedicated peace worker, Bruce Gagnon. It tells of U.S.-Israeli preparations for cruise missile attacks on Iran or Syria. When they bombed Lebanon close to the Syrian border, they were trying to provoke some military response from Syria. If they got a response they would use that as an excuse to launch attacks on Syria.

Multiple military sources have told the Global Network that Pentagon personnel responsible for selecting targets for cruise missile first strike attacks have been sent to Israel.
This indicates that U.S. and Israeli military strategists are now likely meeting to plan a join attack on Syria and/or Iran.

This is a truly excellent paper by Craig Roberts, and he does conclude that the Official story about the cause of 9/11, is unbelievable. He is very convincing that the Bush Administration 9/11 story is totally unbelievable. Although it is painfully obvious that the Bush Administration must have been deeply involved in the 9/11 conspiracy and covering up the details of the crime as well as preventing a full and strictly independent investigation, Roberts and many other prestigious Americans seem very reluctant to say so.

GOP candidate says 9/11 attacks were a hoax

A Republican candidate for this area's congressional seat said Wednesday that the U.S. government was complicit in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
In an editorial board interview with The Telegraph on Wednesday, the candidate, Mary Maxwell, said the U.S. government had a role in killing nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, so it could make Americans hate Arabs and allow the military to bomb Muslim nations such as Iraq.Maxwell, 59, seeks the 2nd District congressional seat. The Concord resident opposes the incumbent, Charles Bass of Peterborough, and Berlin Mayor Bob Danderson in the Republican primary Sept. 12.

Talk of space wars and weaponizing space, suggests that Israel will choose the path of war, conquest and domination. In the long run, that could result in disaster for all people and nations in the Middle East.

Israeli Official Urges Space-Based Weapons

Bush is not fighting a global war on terrorism in Iraq or anywhere else. There was no terrorism in Iraq until Bush provoked the resistance to invasion and American barbarism. He calls such resistance "terrorism" for his own political purposes. His wars and policies and statements make far more resistance to American aggression or "terrorism" as he likes to call it, than it defeats. His so-called "war on terrorism" in Iraq is not a war - particularly after he quickly defeated the puny forces of Saddam Hussein. It has always been an illegal invasion and massacre of civilians, based on many whopping big lies. His tactics don't kill terrorists, it makes them.

Bush's Terror Tales

There is something sad about a grown man playing children's make-believe war games in a tree-house in grandpa's back yard?which is how George W. Bush came across Thursday night in his  speech on the importance of winning the war in Iraq in the global battle against terrorism. Rarely does a leader of a great country like the United States malign history, his people's intelligence and the dignity of over a billion Muslims in one speech. But Bush did that Thursday night and will probably keep doing it for a while.

It is essential to the fulfillment of the Bush Neo-con plan, and the benefit of his many cronies in the U.S. military-industrial complex and oil industry, that they create a credible enemy that can be goaded into resistance and acts of terrorism against U.S. and U.K. neo-Imperialism.
All acts of resistance to U.S. or Israeli illegal wars and occupations in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine or any other country, especially those with oil resources that Bush Neo-cons covet, must be portrayed to the public as acts of terrorism probably committed by Muslim fanatics, suicide bombers and Islamic fascists. In creating his enemies, Bush warns Americans "you are either with us or with the terrorists".

The Clash of Civilizations Doesn't Exist... Yet

According to some of our more serious hawks, anyone who doesn't buy that the liberal democracies of the West are engaged in a death-match with hordes of dusky Muslim fanatics is "unserious" about America's security and can't be trusted.
It's the latest in a series of attempts to forestall any meaningful discussion of the causes of violent Islamist ideologies, much less how the United States should respond to them. It locks us into the global "war on terror."
Unfortunately, all too many otherwise sane people seem to accept the terms.

We should also recognise that both the U.S. and Israel are prepared to resort to the use of nuclear weapons in their conquest. A careful analysis of the military situation and relevant papers on both our web site and others, would tend to support this finding.
I don't think people should lose sight of these factors in their attempts to stop this criminal madness before it becomes uncontrollable. 

Amnesty: 'Israel committed war crimes'

On August 23, human rights group Amnesty International accused Israel of committing war crimes. Amnesty said that the pattern and scope of Israel's bombing campaign in Lebanon, statements by Israeli officials and the scale of damage inflicted on civilian infrastructure “indicated that such destruction was deliberate and part of a military strategy, rather than 'collateral damage'”.

Paul Craig Roberts found that according to U.S. polls, 50% of Americans still believe Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction when Bush invaded and 64% still believe Saddam has strong links to Al Qaeda. That is really astonishing. Enough Americans will believe whatever their leaders tell them, regardless of how outrageously wrong it may be - and - they will keep believing it in spite of the many proofs that it is lies.

Gullible Americans

Americans never check any facts.  Who do you know, for example, who has even read the Report of the 9/11 Commission, much less checked the alleged facts reported in that document.  I can answer for you.  You don't know anyone who has read the report or checked the facts. 

I received a number of intelligent responses from readers of my August 14 column, “ Gullible Americans,” The letters deserve a reply. Moreover, some contain important points that should be shared with a wider audience. Pundits such as myself are not the only people who have interesting things to say. ...While Hezbollah's ongoing rocket attacks on civilian targets in Israel are indeed illegitimate and can certainly be considered acts of terrorism, it is important to note that such attacks were launched only after the U.S.-backed Israeli assault on civilian targets in Israel began July 12.

Supposedly by Muslim terrorists, the articles give detailed evidence that the Bush Administration did an "Operation Northwoods" attack on the U.S. public to get their support for the wars against the newly minted enemy "war on terrorism". I hope I am terribly wrong in my conclusions. The implications if I and others are right are at least, a new Dark Ages for the human race. But like many other civilisation, we also might destroy ourselves and the world in a global holocaust.

Every day it becomes clearer that the U.S. and Israel are engaging in a joint war on Muslim countries in the middle east. Israel's assault on Lebanon is the latest example. Bush & Co. are acting for Israel diplomatically, justifying all it's atrocities, while blocking an effective U.N. resolution and action.
Today, Israel's Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert called on all Jews to unite behind Israel "which was fighting for it's life" and prepare for more sacrifices.
How could anyone believe such falsehoods? Israel is the strongest power in the middle east with enough nuclear firepower to annihilate any state that dared attack it. With it's 200-500 nuclear weapons, Israel could destroy most of the world. Nevertheless enough people will believe this pro-war rubbish and propaganda and support Israel's war. This will make it possible for Olmert to continue his unprecedented barbarism.

An open letter to the American president :
Dear Mr. Bush,
We heard you express your regrets regarding the casualties of Israel's ravaging war against my country, Lebanon.
I hope you have been furnished with a true profile of the atrocities being perpetrated in my country. You pose as being at war with terrorism. Let me honestly tell you: Charity starts at home.
