.... Parry's article below reports that the Bush regime is planning to go ahead with its expansion of the Iraq  war, and by nuclear bombing Iran. This parallels many other articles on this site which say the same thing. All predict very, very serious consequences in many areas.
Parry also predicts there will be "some provocation that can be blamed on Syria and Iran , thus justifying the expanded war."
My own prediction is that the "provocation" referred to by Parry, will be a vitally important False Flag operation. It would be very carefully planned by the Bush Administration to stage some kind of an attack, perhaps a terrorist attack on the US, like 9/11, for which the Bush Regime has planned to blame Iran. ...

Every tactic the US has taken in Iraq since their 2003 invasion seems to have been designed to provoke more hatred of the US and more, not less, terrorism. In her historical mystery, “The Daughter of Time,” Josephine Tey (a pen name of Elizabeth MacKintosh), has Scotland Yard Inspector Alan Grant, while confined to his hospital bed, solve the 15th century murder of the two York princes in the Tower of London.  The princes were murdered by Henry VII, and the crime was blamed on Richard III in order to justify the upstart Tudor's violent seizure of the English throne.
They makes the point that if a 20th century mystery writer can detect the truth about a 15th century murder, historians have no excuse to persist in writing in school textbooks that Richard murdered his nephews. British historians remained loyal to the Tudor propaganda long after the Tudors were no longer around to be feared or served.

Dr Leupp provides an excellent analysis of the geopolitical situation and the likelihood that the US will attack Iran in 2007.
However like many other US commentators he doesn't mention Bush's probable use of nuclear weapons, or how Bush may use a 'False Flag' type of attack on the US then blame it on Iran , to justify a war on Iran . An attack would frighten, confuse and probably enflame the US public with increased hatred of Iran , thus gaining their support for the planned war in much the same way as their support was gained for the phoney war on Iraq.

The reaction to the Iraq Study Group (ISG) report suggests that a showdown is shaping up within the U.S. power elite between two different sets of cowboys.
On the one hand, there are the George W. Bush cowboys who want to expand their conquests from Afghanistan and Iraq into Syria and Iran. It's a natural extension of the Manifest Destiny doctrine that underpinned the conquest of the"Wild West," the annexation of almost half of Mexico's territory in the 1840s, the "opening of Japan" resulting from gunboat diplomacy in 1854, the Marines' overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893, and the establishment of a colonial empire from the Pacific to the Caribbean following the Spanish-American War.

Castro has done a wonderful job for the Cuban people. They know and appreciate him for it. Somehow he has dodged and/or survived the many US assassination attempts against him. Let us hope the US hasn't invented some new biochemical weapon that could be virtually undetectable and create natural-appearing deaths. Given the huge lead the US has in weapons development in many fields, one cannot logically exclude the possibility of technological advances in US  covert weaponry. Also, we cannot expect news about such hypothetical new weapons, as detection and publicity would tend to nullify the usage and effects of such weapons.

Admire him or despise him, it's tempting to think Fidel Castro keeps a piece of polished Cuban Mahogany in his office with, as of yesterday, six marks on it -- one for each American president he has defied and survived, beginning with Dwight Eisenhower. Every president starting with Ike has presided over plots of various levels of nefariousness against Castro's Cuba, the most notorious being the Kennedy era's botched invasions, exploding clam plots and beard-melting conspiracies. But even the more benign U.S. administrations have maintained the embargo and participated in various other forms of economic subterfuge against the hemisphere's only socialist isle.

As the nation eulogizes President Gerald R. Ford, who died last night in California, no one should lose sight of the fact that it was Ford who helped launch the careers of the two ugliest faces in the George W. Bush administration. Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Cheney and Rumsfeld were deep-selected from lower-level positions in the Nixon administration and named as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff for Ford's White House.....
Much is being made of Ford's statement in the wake of Nixon's resignation that "our long national nightmare is over." Mr. Ford's elevation of Bush, Sr., Rumsfeld, and Cheney did not end our national nightmare, it merely postponed it until January 20, 2001.

While brilliant and very worthwhile, Marjorie Cohn also neglects to mention the techniques and circumstances the Bush regime may use to start a war with Iran with US public support.  
The result of this kind of failure by many US journalists is a people that will be fooled by a US 'False Flag' against Iran. They will then support a war on Iran because of what they have been fooled into thinking that Iran has done. It is a story of how rational intelligent thinking people can discount and/or dismiss the idea of official chicanery, even though various US Governments and their agencies have a long history of committing various nefarious schemes against other countries and governments.

In 1971, singer Marvin Gaye raised hackles when he tried to make sense of the madness of the Vietnam War by asking, "What's Going On?" ....
The song, told from the perspective of a returning Vietnam veteran, was inspired by Gaye's brother who had recently returned from that disastrous war.

A number of articles are posted on our website predicting a US war with Iran . And a Google search on this subject showed 104 million articles. Searching "US Nuclear War With Iran" showed 24.7 million articles. Therefore, a lot of very thoughtful people are deeply concerned, and writing about, this subject. And there are many indications that this nightmare will begin soon, just as there were before the illegal US bombing, invasion and occupation of Iraq began in 2003.
The present Bush regime has committed multiple war crimes and violations of the US Constitution. Now, with their backs against the wall, with the "Impeach Bush" movement growing, and with Bush's popularity dropping below 30%, the Bush regime may decide their only way out is to resort to even greater crimes---such as escalating the Iraq War and making a preemptive strike with mini-nukes on Iran.

Back on October 9, I wrote in The Nation that it looked like the Bush-Cheney gang, worried about the November election, was gearing up for an unprovoked attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, with a carrier strike group led by the USS Eisenhower being ordered to depart a month early from Norfolk, VA to join the already-on-station USS Enterprise. That article was based on reports from angry sailors based on the Eisenhower who had leaked word of their mission.
There was, thankfully, no attack on Iran before Election Day, but it is starting to look like I may have been right about the plan after all, but wrong about the timing.

When Generals and Congressmen promote the Faith at the Pentagon for TV it is usually a form of messianic Christianity - the kind that believes in 'End Times' soon, and a new crusade against the unbelievers. No risk is too great nor a new insanity that nutty, that they don't embrace it in their service to the primitive God of War that they fervently believe in.

It's a delicate and controversial question. Where does freedom to practice religion inside Pentagon offices with high-ranking Defense Department officers, congressmen and other ranking federal officials stop?
Can Army generals in uniform gather with congressmen and federal agency officials to promote the Christian faith in uniform inside the Pentagon while being videotaped by a high-powered religious organization? Can the easily accessible tape, as well as military Christian web sites, be misconstrued by Islamic extremists during wartime?

There was no civil war in Iraq before.  But by using what is known as "The Salvador Option" (described below by James Brook) the US rapidly turned their illegal war on Iraq  into the civil war it is today.
The technique, used many times by the US before, particularly in South America , involves employing death squads to masquerade as the militia of the dominant faction, or as police under the direction of that faction, and murder assigned targets on the victim side.

‘Everyone in town is talking “surge” now,’ a Pentagon adviser explained to NPR listeners the other day, and you could almost feel the country buckle up its mind for another bloody disaster ahead. One big “final” push to defeat the popular resistance of the Iraqi people. Just to see if we can do it, before we leave. It probably won’t work, but it’s worth a try.’

Considering the war is both preplanned and based on lies, it is a robbery on a gigantic scale. Will Bush and his collaborators get away with this $trillion gigantic fraud, and the totally unjustified mass killing of 655,000 Iraqi people and 3,000 unwitting US Servicemen who believe they are doing their duty?

When America invaded Iraq in 2003, the Bush administration predicted that the war would turn a profit, paying for itself with increased oil revenues. So far, though, Congress has spent more than $350 billion on the conflict, including the $50 billion appropriated for 2007.

David Corn's brilliant analysis of the Iraq war and Bush's reactions are scary as he says. Bush plans to sweep aside all expert advice and escalate the war with more troops (he invented a new term for escalating the war. He calls it a 'surge' tactic). He will also likely intensify US bombing of Iraq. However Corn does not mention that Bush may also use a ‘False Flag' attack on the US and blame Iran, then use that as his justification to both escalate the Iraq war, use nuclear weapons on Iran, and introduce fascist-type legislation in the US. This possibility has been mentioned extensively in other writings on this site.

This is scary. The president of the United States of America has created a hellish disaster that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians and thousands of American soldiers, and he's resting well. The vice president believes that the man responsible for three of the greatest military blunders in U.S. history (attacking Iraq without devising a strategy for securing the country after the invasion; dissolving the Iraqi army, creating armed and trained recruits for the incipient insurgency; and mounting an extensive de-Baathification campaign that destroyed the governing infrastructure of the nation) did his job well.

Tariq Ali's brilliant article below, deals with the present unfolding disaster. But not with what might soon follow.
A 'surge' of more US troops and increased US bombing of civilians will produce more desperate resistance and lead to more Iraqi and US casualties in Iraq. It is likely to be accompanied by more domestic US protest, and more US military testimony against the war, including more military resignations.

This video game equates killing unbelievers with Christian morality and teachings. The game implies that it is virtuous, Christian, ethical and spiritual to vaporize in a puff of smoke anyone who does not share the destructive religious delusions of far right Fundamentalist Christians. Fundamentalists claim they are reaching out in a spirit of love to the unbelievers, so that unbelievers have a chance to convert to the one true faith, rather than be 'left behind' in the great rapture of true believers to Heaven.

Left Behind: Eternal Forces allows you to command the tribulation force, uncover the truth about worldwide disappearances, and save as many people as possible from the antichrist.

The Iraq Study Group is obviously pandering to Bush fantasies, by refusing to recognise the US massacre of Iraqis as an illegal, totally unjustified invasion of a small country. Iraq had no WMD, no links to al-Qaeda or Bin Laden, and no links to the 9/11 attack, and no intentions of attacking neighbours or the USA or the UK ..."....in 45 minutes" as Tony Blair claimed. This would have to be one of the largest deceptions for warmaking in history.
The ISG is parroting all the lies and false assumptions used to justify this illegal war - and claims "US troops will be there " for a long, long time." This genuflecting to Bush, the neocons, the media, and their war mania, is in defiance of 7 out of 10 Americans who want an end to the war and for US troops to be withdrawn. 

Washington Refuses to End the War When Colin Powell endorsed the Iraq Study Group report during his Dec. 17 appearance on "Face the Nation," it was another curtain call for a tragic farce.
Four years ago, "moderates" like Powell were making the invasion of Iraq possible. Now, in the guise of speaking truth to power, Powell and ISG co-chairs James Baker and Lee Hamilton are refueling the U.S. war effort by depicting it as a problem of strategy and management.
But the U.S. war effort is a problem of lies and slaughter.

This article by David Corn, editor of The Nation, reveals additional important testimony that Bush and Blair cooked and altered intelligence in order to justify an illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq - an independent, sovereign state. Whereas they made much of the fact that Sad Hussein was a murdering despot and needed to be deposed so that they could introduce 'freedom and democracy' in Iraq, this was just a joke.
They do not admit and US mass media did not report, that the US made and supported Sadam's dictatorship from its very beginning. They armed him, encouraged his war with Iran and his crimes against his own people.

The TV Channel 3 screening on Dec 16, 2006, of the Film "9/11 In Plane Site" is the first mass media exposure of serious flaws in the official story of the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on the WTC and Pentagon. Hopefully this will open the taboo subject to more exposure. There is a large body of evidence and testimony showing that 9/11 was an inside job.
This makes the whole story of Islamic terrorism and 'war on terror' an invented phoney exercise to justify a series of wars on oil-rich and oil-producing Islamic states in the Middle East. Saturday night's national airing of "In Plane Site" on New Zealand television represents a historic turning point in the global collective consciousness regarding the terrorist attacks of September 11.  After all, it was only months after the second national airing of "In Plane Site" on Australia 's Network 10, which kicked off a firestorm of debate leading to Federal Labor politician Michael Danby's demand that the programming director of Network 10 be fired for airing the program.

The Democratic Party and its feckless leaders in Congress are about to fall into a trap. The trap is being sprung by President Bush and his too clever brain trust, but the sad fact is that it was actually laid by the Democrats themselves.
Taking over the Congress on a wave of popular revulsion at the twin catastrophes in Iraq and Afghanistan, Democrats could have issued immediate calls for an end to those wars, a return of the troops, and investigations into the criminal causes of those costly fiascos. They could have initiated efforts to halt funding for further war and foreign occupation.

Even before he was elected in 2000, Bush and his neocons were planning wars of aggression based on lies.
However, as Bush and his collaborators are the most powerful regime in the world, it's unlikely he will ever be prosecuted by the World Court, or impeached for crimes against the US Constitution by a US court. Bush has openly sneered at international law and discarded or ignored all international treaties that interfere with his illegal wars and nuclear armaments objectives.

The crime of a war of aggression is listed in Article 5.1 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (RSICC) as one of the four most serious crimes of concern to the international community, and that it falls within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC). It was addressed earlier by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg following World War II , which called the waging of aggressive war "essentially an evil thing...to initiate a war of aggression...is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

The following article shows a few of the lies upon which the Iraq war is based. Amazingly, some people still believe these lies even though they have been exposed as concocted to justify the war. Even more amazing is that this US-created massacre not only continues, but gets worse in spite of the known lies. The mass media have embraced the lies as their own. To my knowledge, they have never admitted they acted for the Bush Administration in relaying these lies to their readers.

Options After the Deconstruction of Iraq

Wars of aggression are the most barbarous of all human endeavors.
[1] They are, more often than not, the instruments of insane tyrants who hear voices. Wars are also waged by warlike gambling leaders who bet their citizens' lives, houses and treasure to fulfill their own megalomaniac dreams of grandeur.

More specialist searching may reveal even more. It looks very promising. There may be valuable theories to explain Bush's messianic and destructive behaviour as he leads the world toward the brink. U.S. Command Declares Global Strike Capability has been in a state of readiness since 2004. This very limited release raises many questions.
Pre-emptive nuclear war suggests that the USA would not wait to be attacked before launching its pre-emptive attack in anticipation.
In other words they (meaning the Bush Administration or its successor) reserve the right to be intelligence interpreter, judge, jury and executioner. This is because any nuclear strike could kill a nation - or a number of nations. As they have already demonstrated a terrible failure of intelligence over the Iraq war, and many indications they have doctored and biased the intelligence to get the results they wanted to justify war, how can anyone judge the validity of US intelligence excuses they may give to justify a nuclear strike.?

U.S. Command Declares Global Strike Capability    
The U.S. Strategic Command announced yesterday it had achieved an operational capability for rapidly striking targets around the globe using nuclear or conventional weapons, after last month testing its capacity for nuclear war against a fictional country believed to represent North Korea.

My belief is that the only way to stop a possible Bush plan of this type is to educate Americans about 'False Flag' usage in the past, and that Bush may use such a technique to fool Americans into supporting a nuclear war on Iran . I really don't see how else he can get away with doing it, and convincing allies and the rest of the world that he did the right thing. Unless pre-warned about this possibility, even the Japanese might go along with a believable 'False Flag' blamed on Iran to justify the US use of nuclear weapons in retaliation.

The neocons believe that the use of nukes will convince Arabs and the wider world that there is no recourse to accepting America's will. John Bolton, a notorious neocon warmonger who could not be confirmed as America's ambassador to the UN by even the compliant and corrupt US Senate, got the job as a recess appointment. He is using the platform to push America into war with Iran.

George Monbiot describes "total sensory deprivation" a US technique of torture that often makes prisoners like Jose Padilla lose their minds. Jose Padilla, a US  citizen detained as an "enemy combatant" and suspected of planning to detonate a dirty bomb, was imprisoned for 3 years without any charge being laid against him. He was subjected to "total sensory deprivation”. Now...."his mind is no longer there" Monbiot wrote.
...Remember, with pre-emptive nuclear war millions can be killed in hours. The world, if it continues, will be irreparably damaged for all the time that remains.

In the fight against cruelty, barbarism and extremism, America has embraced the very evils it claims to confront.
After thousands of years of practice, you might have imagined that every possible means of inflicting pain had already been devised. But you should never underestimate the human capacity for invention. United States interrogators, we now discover, have found a new way of destroying a human being.

I repeat this quote from Adolph Hitler because it seems so relevant to the tactics today of the Bush Administration. The reactions of people are much the same. It's as if nothing was learned since the Hitlerian techniques were successfully used on the German people. Why?  They may be fooled again, particularly if Bush and co unleash a 'False Flag' op, followed up with a well-planned campaign of lies, blame, pro-war propaganda and war on the accused, for the phoney alleged "False Flag" terrorist attack on the US. 

Chris Floyd has written one of the great papers of our age. In a few pages he expresses the steps in the decline of US Constitutional Law; the US rise of fascist-type legislation; and why we should not expect much improvement from the new 'democratically-controlled' Senate and Congress.

...The propaganda pitch also suggests that Bush and his neocons are using the same type of lies to build a case for attacking Iran and that they are creating a situation where they will blame Iran and Syria for not stopping the violence provoked by the US war. With the US said to be planning to use nuclear weapons against Iran , they may use any number of tactics and psywar inventions, such as a 'False Flag' operation to convince the public that this was the right thing to do.

The Bush Administration is adopting the same denial tactics toward nuclear workers it is using towards soldiers complaining of diseases caused by DU poisoning.

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration repeatedly sought ways to limit payouts to nuclear weapons workers sickened by radiation and toxic material, according to a memo written by congressional investigators and obtained by USA TODAY.
The investigation focuses on a federal program created in 2000 to compensate people with cancers and other illnesses tied to their work at government and contractor-owned facilities involved in Cold War nuclear weapons production. About 98,000 cases have been filed under the program, and the Labor Department has approved compensation in about 24,000 of those cases. However, program records show that not all of those approved claims have been paid. full story

... DU munitions - shells, bombs and bullets, are combined with depleted uranium, a by-product of the nuclear industry. As a destroyer, tank-buster and killer, these weapons are much more effective and deadly than conventional munitions. As a result the USA and its allies have used DU weapons in four wars since the first Gulf war in 1991- increasing the DU tonnage used in each war.. But they explode on impact into millions of deadly, microscopic particles that slowly rise into the upper atmosphere, then blow and drift around the planet eventually settling to earth thousands of miles from where they are first used. As they have a half life of 4.5 billion years, they go on killing forever and infecting the gene pool, adults and children of all future generations. They cause many types of cancer, organ failure, other types of lingering killer diseases and horrific genetic mutations of foetuses.

"At that time, you just trusted the government," said Yeley, who received compensation this year. "We were out there wallerin' around in it (radiation) and I didn't know a thing." . . .
"The Cold War is still being fought in nursing homes, in convalescent facilities and in emergency rooms and in hospices all over the United States," Borris said. "It's not the type of killer that kills right away.
"It kills over a long period of time."

Robert Koehler's idea of the draft exposing the hypocrisy of Congressmen and Senators is good but does not take into account the circumstances where the draft could be introduced.
For example, a terrorist attack on the US or a 'False Flag' operation faking such a terrorist attack, could set the stage for a general public approval of new draft laws. Congress would have little choice but to pass draft laws. It is very unlikely that the Bush regime would introduce the draft unless a real or invented crisis provided the public motivation required.
Another factor is that important law legislators, such as Congressmen and Senators, are usually rich and influential and have many government contacts.

The New York congressman recently reprised his audacious proposal - first made nearly four years ago, with the United States about to launch Operation Iraqi Quagmire - to reinstate the draft. He reasoned that, if a military action is really necessary, we should, you know, share the sacrifice: get congressmen's' children, presumably even Jenna and Barbara, involved in the action. And if it isn't, we shouldn't go to war.
As a faux-naive device for exposing hypocrisy, Rangel's idea is worthy of Michael Moore, if not Borat. The hemming and hawing of establishment opposition is worth savoring for a news cycle.
The real reason why the draft, so passionately defended by conservatives during the Vietnam era, is no longer "necessary" or wanted by the military-industrial-media complex is that the country is far too peace-loving to tolerate it.

By their use of DU weapons and other criminal actions, the US and UK governments are poisoning the planet, poisoning this and future generations, and ensuring the eventual destruction of the human species.

Here is another piece of the 9/11 puzzle. That Pakistan Intelligence financed the 9/11 hijackers. That the newly appointed head of the CIA Porter Goss, knew this and had close links with Pakistan intelligence. If 9/11 was a Bush Administration 'inside job', Porter Goss must have been privy to, or part, of that operation. No wonder Bush appointed him to head the CIA with overall control of a budget of 40 billion dollars for intelligence operations? For those who have studied 9/11 and concluded it must have been a Bush Administration conspiracy, the attached article by Prof. Chossudovsky makes sense and is an important part of the conspiracy.

Two weeks before 9/11, Porter Goss, the White House nominee for the CIA Director of Intelligence was being "briefed on the growing threat of al Qaeda" (WP, 5/04/03) by a Pakistani General who "ran a spy agency notoriously close to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban. "
Following George Tenet's resignation as Director of Central Intelligence at the CIA, the Bush administration immediately pointed to Rep. Porter Goss, as its handpicked nominee.
Porter Goss, a Florida Republican and former CIA operative, is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He also chaired, together with Senator Bob Graham, the Joint Senate House Committee, on the September 11 attacks.

In his latest article, "Anatomy of a Civil War: Iraq's descent into chaos" , Rosen writes, "Shia religious parties such as the Iran-supported Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (its name a sufficient statement of its intentions), or SCIRI, controlled the country, and Shia militias had become the Iraqi police and the Iraqi army, running their own secret prisons, arresting, torturing, and executing Sunnis in what was clearly a civil war. And the Americans were merely one more militia among the many, watching, occasionally intervening, and in the end only making things worse. Iraqis' hopes for a better future after Saddam had been betrayed."

You may remember ex-CIA agent Ralph McGeehee who toured NZ for us back in the 80's. He said, and books by ex-CIA people also confirm that, the CIA often uses right-wing religious groups like EBs as a cover to channel funds to groups in countries the CIA wants to influence. In NZ we do know the US wants to get rid of NZ N-Free legislation and get NZ back on track sending NZ troops to US wars and hosting their warships. So it makes sense to suspect that perhaps the CIA has a role in supplying money and direction to NZ EBs for this purpose.

There's a certain irony in that while papers in New Zealand devote their first few pages to the demise of Don, across the Tasman the Melbourne Age leads with a story about Exclusive Brethren involvement in the Victoria state elections.
It's the same old stuff. The EBs have taken out advertising in the Age and the Herald Sun attacking the Greens.
So what is the problem with the Exclusive Brethren campaigning ...

The International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA), which continues to inspect Iran nuclear facilities under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and makes regular reports to the UN on their findings, says there is no evidence that Iran has nuclear arms or preparations to make nuclear arms. The following article says the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports a similar finding.
Yet the Bush Administration and Israel claim Iran is a nuclear threat and must be stopped. They constantly threaten to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities even threatening to use nuclear weapons against Iran to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons.

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has not found conclusive evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, a US magazine has reported.

The military use of space is part of the  U.S. plan to be able to wage war in space or anywhere in the world. This is illustrated by its votes in the UN below and the US abrogation of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and the new US National Space Policy statement.

Sadly, the US statement today was consistent with its flagrant assertion in its new space policy doctrine that it “will oppose the development of new legal regimes or other restrictions that seek to prohibit or limit U.S. access to or use of space.”
What hypocrisy and deception!

This article is particularly good because of its analysis of the Washington establishment, the probable result of the Iraq Study Group, and comments about permanent U.S. bases in Iraq, and the amazing abdication of responsibility by the Mass Media of honest coverage of the war.
On the other hand the predictions could be wrong if the Bush Administration implements its plan to make war on Iran, and escalates that into a nuclear war on Iran, leading to a general war on Islamic countries.
The possible use of a 'False Flag' operation by the Bush Administration, to incriminate Iran and justify using nuclear weapons, must also be considered.

Will Papa Bush's Old Pals Prolong the Iraq Occupation?

While everyone in Washington is treating Bush Senior's ally Robert Gates' Pentagon arrival and James Baker's Iraq Study Group report as godsends that will end the war in Iraq, it's quite likely that they will deploy more troops and stay there indefinitely.

Although the following article was written 3 years ago, its message is still powerful and relevant today. Most people passively tolerate the systematic poisoning of people, their lands and the world. However DU poisoning lasts for eternity. It drifts around the planet, killing, deforming and genetically damaging everyone's children and descendants forever, whether in Washington, New York or Kabul. Psychopaths in the Pentagon deny, deny, deny and then smirk like George Bush. They are doing their professional duty. People accept that and forget. How long can the human race survive when we, so casually, resort to such widespread killing and torture?

....This will not be easy to read, especially if you've projected evil out of your own heart, into some cave in Afghanistan or a spider hole in Iraq, and reduced the age-old question it inspires to this one: How can we bomb it off the face of the earth?
Before the damage we inflict grows greater, before history's judgment gets worse, before we contaminate the whole world - even before we vote in the next election - we must stop what we're doing. We must stop now.

The article also claims Iran wants the U.S. to make a limited attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, as this would allegedly boost Iranian prestige in the Middle East. I don't agree with this hypothesis or that the U.S. attack would be, or remain, limited. I think the U.S. wants regime change and will make a massive attack on Iran, it's population and infrastructure - much like what it has done in Iraq, only worse. I think it's real objective is a much wider war, against the Islamic world in general. Ultimately it's objective is to dominate the Middle East, particularly oil. Like the views expressed in many other articles, I think the Bush Administration plans to use nuclear weapons on Iran, and that the conflict will escalate into a terminal global disaster.

Too lazy to go over and read Sy Hersh's latest bombshell on the machinations for war with Iran at The New Yorker? Here are the juicy bits.
First off, Hersh confirms what  Ray McGovern warned of two weeks ago: don't start celebrating yet over Donald Rumsfeld's replacement, Bob Gates:
Other sources close to the Bush family said that the machinations behind Rumsfeld's resignation and the Gates nomination were complex, and the seeming triumph of the Old Guard may be illusory...
.....The bit that is making the headlines is what comes next. Hersh says that the CIA doesn't even think Iran has a secret nuclear weapons program, but that Cheney and his team don't care:

It is sickening to think thousands of mainly innocent victims have  been kidnapped by the U.S. and clandestinely transported to prisons in countries ruled by dictatorial regimes. There they are subjected to torture until they confess. These so-called confessions are usually worthless, because they are made to stop the torture. As the following article points out, the majority of victims are unaccounted for. They are believed to have been either murdered or disappeared. The Bush regime may extend and increase this practice, especially if it starts a new war on Iran. New legislation may allow Bush to apply this practice to domestic U.S. dissenters and critics of the Bush regime. At the moment the American political system and the people, seem unable to rid America of the terrorist monsters in the White House.

More than 7,000 prisoners have been captured in America's war on terror. Just 700 ended up in Guantanamo Bay. Between extraordinary rendition to foreign jails and disappearance into the CIA's "black sites", what happened to the rest?

"Emissions of all industrialized countries declined by 3.3 percent between 1990 and 2004, while U.S. emissions grew by almost 16%". The U.S. is already responsible for "25 percent of global emissions".
However as the authors of the following article point out, the annual U.S. spending for "research energy and development has fallen from $7.7 billion in 1979 to just $3 billion in the current budget."
In contrast U.S. "funding for military research has increased 260 percent to $75 billion a year".

World temperatures are rising to levels not seen in at least 12,000 years. Greenland's ice mass is melting at "what what NASA calls a 'dramatic' rate of 41 cubic miles per year." And unless climate change is reined in, " extreme drought could eventually affect one-third of the planet ." More than 5,000 activists, scientists, and diplomats understand these facts and have gathered in Nairobi, Kenya for the annual two-week U.N. Climate Change Conference , which is now in its final three days . As U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan wrote in a Washington Post op-ed, " The stakes are high . ... Yet too often climate change is seen as an environmental problem when it should be part of the broader development and economic agenda."

A few weeks ago Congress passed laws which legalised the U.S. use of torture on so-called terrorism suspects At first there was some debate and resistance to Bush's torture bill. But the Senate and Congress quickly caved in and gave Bush what he wanted. Now torture is legal. For the time being it is mainly kept secret and done by U.S.-sponsored dictatorships, or client regimes in other countries. Main stream U.S. media carefully avoid the subject so a lot of Americans don't know how much about it. The following article shows how torture is becoming incorporated into American life. It is a reflection of the psychopathology of George Bush. As long as Bush remains in office, we can expect a growth in this foul and degrading practice.

Is torture an acceptable tactic to use in the war against terror?

....The U.S. Democrats who have just won in Congress and the Senate are unlikely to stop this war as they are deeply involved in approving the Iraq war, and either repeating or not questioning Bush lies to justify it. They are doing the same thing about the new U.S. enemy - Iran . They have also approved Bush's new nuclear doctrines, his patriot laws, his preparations for the Iran war and given him virtually unlimited power. The Democrats have proved themselves to be a weak, lily-livered and wishy-washy opposition party unwilling and unable to speak the truth about the Bush Administration and the illegal wars. The media don't mention the US policies which threatened North Korea , North Korea 's previous attempts to make a secure peace which were rejected by the US , all or which finally caused it to go nuclear.   The majority of Americans support Bush's classifications and definitions of North Korea as a nuclear threat.  Because the US media are basically performing a war propaganda role for the Bush Administration, rather than the truth of the situation, the US public has been prepared and conditioned for war. The majority accepts and supports possible US military action against North Korea . To a lesser degree this also applies to the media and publics in US-allied nations.

. . . In his first weeks in office, Bush cast aside the Clinton administration's delicate negotiations that had hemmed in North Korea's nuclear ambitions. The new president then brushed aside worries of Secretary of State Colin Powell and South Korean President Kim Dae Jung about dangerous consequences from a confrontation.

The U.S. has gone to considerable lengths to set up a situation in the UN where it can claim UN approval to legally use nuclear weapons against Iran.
Professor Hirsch shows how this was done. Although it may not have been the intention of any state other than Israel to give such approval for any such action, the U.S. has an objective and a plan - and that plan includes making war on Iran . All kinds of dupliciity, chicanery and pressure has been used to achieve this end, so that they can actually argue that the UN resolution and sanctions against Iran gave them approval to use force against Iran - even nuclear weapons.

A Legal US Nuclear Attack Against Iran The real reason for the IAEA Iran resolution

On September 24 of this year, the United States finally achieved a goal it had persistently pursued over several years. Iran was declared by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) to be in "non compliance" with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The resolution passed by the IAEA is remarkably weak. It does not set a date for Iran to be referred to the UN Security Council, and it does not even mention the possibility of sanctions. It even notes that Iran has made "good progress" in correcting its "breaches," all of which date back to before October 2003. The LA Times characterized it as a " gentle slap ." It is instead an enormous thud.

. . . Dissent and criticism of Bush will become non-existent, both because the media will suppress it and because people will be unwilling to express criticism and risk imprisonment, torture and jail.
If events unfold as now indicated, it will be a triumph of dedicated and diabolical evil, employing all the instruments of ultimate force and deception, backed by millions of duped and fearful Americans and the huge wealth and government apparatus of the state.

At no point since the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945, has humanity been closer to the unthinkable, a nuclear holocaust which could potentially spread, in terms of radioactive fallout,  over a large part of the Middle East.

This any many other articles show there is little doubt that key Bush Administration people want to hit Iran, and reject any objections to using nuclear weapons against Iran.
Any attack on Iran would be so much against U.S. present and future interests, the Administration would have to construct an utterly false but very convincing case for such an action. They did just that for their war on Iraq and the Democrats bought it, in spite of its glaring lies. Iraq may be a quagmire, but the ruse succeeded. Their success with the Iraq deception is likely to embolden them to enact a much larger crime against Iran.
White house decisions are made by extremists with fanatical belief systems that allow them to discount national U.S. considerations. Also, one has to calculate what kind of person calculates the killing of thousands of other human beings and risks far wider war, even nuclear war, for no real reason - other than some kind of fanatical beliefs that defy reason?

Mind Games Over Iran

Three years after the fall of Baghdad to U.S. forces, Washington is abuzz about new reports that the administration of President George W. Bush is preparing to attack Iran, possibly with nuclear weapons.
In just the past few days, lengthy articles detailing planning for aerial attacks on as many as 400 nuclear and military targets have appeared in The Washington Post , the London Sunday Times , The Forward (the main weekly of the U.S. Jewish community) and The New Yorker.
The New Yorker account, written by legendary investigative reporter Seymour Hersh, who two years ago was the first to disclose U.S. abuses of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison, was the most spectacular, although it relied heavily on unnamed sources outside the administration.

The following article provides more evidence that the U.S. regards nuclear weapons as an essential component of it's military posture and has no intention of giving them up, as it pledged to do under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
It's new nuclear doctrines, licensing itself to wage 'pre-emptive' nuclear war against nuclear or non-nuclear nations is another indicator. It's plan to allow the introduction of nuclear weapons, and their use, into conventional conflicts is yet another indicator that nuclear weapons have assumed a more important role in the military strategy of the Bush Administration.
The withdrawal of the U.S. from various nuclear disarmament treaties and downgrading of others such as the NPT indicates they don't want any legal encumbrances to their possible, and perhaps intended, use of nuclear weapons.

U.S. Plan for New Nuclear Weapons Advances

The United States took another step yesterday toward building a new stockpile of up to 2,200 deployed nuclear weapons that would last well into the 21st century, announcing the start of a multiyear process to repair and replace facilities where they would be developed and assembled and where older warheads could be more rapidly dismantled.

It is likely Bush regime lunatics will soon start what may expand to be Humanity's final war - a war on Iran . They will likely stage a "False Flag" attack on the U.S. and blame Iran . Polls as Prologue
According to current polls, if the mid-term elections were held today, President George W. Bush and his Republican Party would lose badly . He would then face an opposition Congress in 2007, one bound and determined to reassert its oversight duties. Investigations, an inevitability, could easily lead to his impeachment , and in that event the two-thirds of the United States who don't trust him could ask troubling questions about his presidency, all the way back to the still-murky events of 9/11.

James Bovard's article shows how Bush is emerging as America's dictator and how media helps this process by portraying it as perfectly normal. Congress and the Senate are allowing Bush to get away with installing a law that allows him to torture suspects. Also, laws to allow the courts to accept testimony obtained under torture, which is generally considered faulty. Most people will say anything just to stop the torture. The  Bush Administration will get the confessions it wants, to justify the sentence it wants to give it's prisoners. Bush can also declare anyone in the world a suspect and does not have to produce evidence to support that charge. It looks like the apathetic American public will accept this, mainly because the media do not make them aware.
If Bush stages a "False Flag" operation to incriminate Iran and then declares war on Iran, the process will be stepped up as well as the popularity of Bush and the Republicans. Few people are aware or care about this frightening loss as their democracy is legislated out of existence.

The Washington Post's story today -- "Bush Signs Terrorism Measure" -- looks like just another routine report on the approval of a piece of legislation, accompanied by the usual "he said/ she said" quotes. A typical reader might shrug at this point and shift to the sports section to read the latest autopsy on the Redskins.
How will we know when a dictatorship has arrived? Not from reading the Washington Post. The Post's story today -- “Bush Signs Terrorism Measure” -- looks like just another routine report on the approval of a piece of legislation, accompanied by the usual “he said/ she said” balancing quotes.

Army chief called in to explain 'quit Iraq' appeal

Armed Forces 'Cowed Into Silence'

Blair's wars have been marked by shameless attempts to stifle voices from the frontline. We have a right to hear them.
The fifth anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan has been marked by two significant statements from the British government. Tony Blair said that soldiers resent relentlessly sceptical coverage of the struggle: "They get fed up, as does everyone else, when it is all presented in a negative light."

1.  accept an offer of enriched uranium from another source, to allay the false and groundless suspicions the U.S. has engendered in the world community.
2. They could offer to allow more inspections of Iran by the international community, in order to show that everything Iran had said was true.
3. Another even more dramatic policy step would be for Iran to announce it will officially recognise the reality of Israel's continued existence and will work with all nations to make a peaceful, secure middle east etc.

Does Bush Think War with Iran Is Preordained?

It took 6 years of relentless threats, sanctions and belligerence, but Bush finally succeeded in pushing Kim Jong-Il to build North Korea's first nuclear bomb. Now, Kim can just add a few finishing touches to his ballistic-missile delivery system, the Taepo-dong ICBM, and he'll be able to wipe out the 9 western states with a flip of the switch.

Wars and propaganda machines

Propaganda machines are dangerous, even more so in a democracy than in a totalitarian regime, because their goal is to confuse, disinform, lie, raise fear and manipulate the opinions of the people.

This is a very important factual paper that shreds Bush's "Stay the Course" argument for keeping his Iraq war going. Seeing as the war is a fraudulent construction by Bush neoconservatives in the first place, this paper only deals with the results of the fraud, and then produces arguments why this war should not be kept going. It's a very good argument for that alone.

The Insanity of 'Staying the Course' in Iraq

At this point, the only people left who think that the U.S. must 'stay the course' in Iraq are Bush's neocons and al Qaeda.
As the bodies pile up in Iraq, new polls show that most Iraqis want us out of their country, and they want us out soon. At the same time, Al Jazeera acquired a letter believed to be from a high-ranking al Qaeda operative that shows that our worst enemies think a protracted occupation of Iraq is "the most important thing" for the future of their cause.
Yet the Bush administration and its mouthpieces insist that we must "stay the course" in Iraq -- either to bring stability to the war-torn country or out of some misguided belief that we can salvage America's dignity from an embarrassing Vietnam-style defeat.

North Korea has repeatedly agreed to junk its nuclear weapons provided the US does three things:
1. deal directly with Pyongyang, which Washington refuses to do;
2. provide security guarantees that the US will not attack North Korea;
3. provide economic aid. The Bush Administration's hard-line neoconservatives refuse to 'validate' North Korea's totalitarian regime through direct talks. Neocons are determined to overthrow Kim Jong-il.t

Ex-U.S. Senator Gary   Hart claims Bush will launch "a preemptive war against Iran " this month before the November Congressional elections in the U.S.
The present predictions are that the Democrats would win enough seats to take control of the House, thus upsetting the Republican majority and perhaps preventing the more extreme war plans of the Bush Administration. The Bush neoconservative regime is determined to prevent that and reverse public opinion so that the Republicans will retain control. 
Will the Bush Administration rely only on lies and false propaganda, as Gary Hart's article implies, to justify preemptive war against Iran?
Or will Bush stage a 'False Flag' so-called 'terrorist attack' on the U.S. and blame Iran , in order to justify the use of nuclear weapons?

The October Surprise

It should come as no surprise if the Bush Administration undertakes a preemptive war against Iran sometime before the November election.
Were these more normal times, this would be a stunning possibility, quickly dismissed by thoughtful people as dangerous, unprovoked, and out of keeping with our national character. But we do not live in normal times.
And we do not have a government much concerned with our national character. If anything, our current Administration is out to remake our national character into something it has never been.

American Politics - Bob Woodward
Two bombshell books just published in the US have questioned the Bush administration's credibility and threaten to rock next month's mid-term elections in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The first is by Bob Woodward, the Washington Post journalist who broke the Watergate Scandal.
Called 'State of Denial' it comes to a damning conclusion: that President Bush has failed to tell the American people the truth over Iraq.
Woodward spent two years on the book and interviewed more than 200 people for it, including most of the top officials in the Bush administration.
On CNN'S Larry King programme Woodward revealed yesterday that secret reports directly contradict what Bush has been telling the American people and the world.

Susan Wood talks to Author Karen DeYoung

Washington Post  journalist Karen DeYoung's biography " Soldier: The Life of Colin Powell "  is out October 10 and in it DeYoung says former United States Secretary of State Colin Powell warned President Bush he was facing a difficult insurgency in Iraq in their final meeting in January last year.
DeYoung says Bush was dismissive and unconcerned about Powell's warnings, just as he had been much of Powell's advice for the previous four years.
Like Bob Woodward's book " State of Denial " DeYoung's biography is out just in time for the November 7 House of Representative elections. She talks to Susan Wood about why Colin Powell departed and discusses her book and Woodward's.

The following article by Richard Franklin goes a long way toward describing the rapid decline toward a U.S. version of fascism; the new fascist type of laws; and the growing dictatorial powers of .President Bush. More than anything it shows how easily Americans can be persuaded to give up their hard-won rights and freedoms and be herded toward a Orwell world.
Even the neocon Bush regime must be amazed at how easy it has been to convert America. Bush is working toward an authoritarian control over the American population.

MUJCA News: BBC, WI, alternative media cover UW 9/11 lecture!

Mainstream media coverage of 9/11 truth events is rarely what it should be, as I have complained on more than one occasion (like here, here, and here). But I have to admit that the local media did a pretty good job covering the recent U.W.-Madison event “9/11: Folklore and Fact.” Once again, the  left-liberal-leaning Capital Times led the way with a balanced, accurate, elegantly-written article, while  the conservative Wisconsin State Journal and Badger Herald also produced good, balanced articles. Here they are, along with the text of my talk “A Folklorist Looks at 9/11” and the wonderful pieces from 911blogger and Gaelic Starover. The BBC documentary on “9/11 conspiracy theorists” is due for broadcast in January.

Chris Floyd in Nov 2001, wrote "of Bush's claim that he could not only declare anyone on earth an "enemy combatant" and jail them forever in black holes without charges, but he could have them summarily killed.....these were claims being made openly and proudly by "Senior Administration officials". Now the laws are before Congress. If Americans value their freedoms and liberties, the Congress will reject this law. Particularly because Bush's wars on terror - used to justify this latest attack on the American people, is based on a tissue of lies. The new laws can be used against any U.S. citizen who opposes and exposes his new fascist laws.

Finally Standing Up as the Republic Crashes Down

So the New York Times has finally roused itself and laid out the straight facts about the presidential tyranny that has been erected around the pathetic figure of George W. Bush: Rushing Off a Cliff The Times is to be lauded for this eloquent and powerful depiction of our degraded political state, and you should read it in full. But a few vital points must mitigate our praise of this otherwise remarkable editorial.
